It’s the season to be jolly! And we are especially jolly about the momentum that is building for a Christmas season that doesn’t cost the earth.
From the 17th to the 18th SŌC will be supporting The Gift Swap at The Conscious Club Christmas Market (located at Hack Corner on the corner of Cashel Street and High Street 5pm to 9pm).
In the last year Sophia White has hosted two swap shops. These are mini markets where people come with good quality items (clothes, books, CDs, anything really) that they own and would like to swap with items other people have brought to the swap. No money is exchanged, all items are swapped freely. Next week Sophia will be running a SŌC supported Christmas special swap shop: The Gift Swap.
At The Gift Swap there will be a Christmas tree with gift tags hanging off it. These tags will be “gifts” which can be exchanged with a “gift” of your own. People can come to the stall and write a gift of their time or skills, be it the promise of homemade cake, an offer of a watercolour painting, company whilst walking the dog or help in the garden. Beneath the tree people can also leave physical gifts that they have brought along to swap for a tag or another gift. This stall will promote the gift hierarchy (see image) and help people think creatively about countering mass consumerism.
The Gift Swap is the perfect stall to stop by with your friends and family. It’s going to be fun, creative and most importantly, you’ll walk away with a unique and special gift for someone you love.
Fantastic idea – I’m into that!
