“The Reality of Everything” Conference was recently held in Wellington, with a follow-up event in Ōtautahi Christchurch on 18 July 2026. Michael Reynolds and Marney Ainsworth collaborated on the topic “Re-commoning Civic Infrastructure” at the Ōtautahi Christchurch event.
Re-commoning is a sustainable approach to ownership and governance. It identifies ecological integrity, functioning infrastructure, community capability, democratic control, workforce knowledge and intergenerational resilience as forms of collective and civic wealth.
Michael’s presentation details the principles that must be met for genuine stewardship and re-commoning to occur. Speaking notes are also provided below.
Marney’s presentation outlines the type of changes that need to happen to shift from a financialised approach to one of shared governance to steward essential systems and networks on behalf of future generations.
Upcoming Rally – Bid to Lease Lyttelton Port
DP World has developed a bid to lease Lyttelton Port. Christchurch City Holdings Limited (CCHL) is holding a meeting to consider the bid, and the Rail and Maritime Transport Union Lyttelton Port Branch has organised a rally outside the CCHL offices during the meeting. Details:
